Solution

Through in-depth research and exploration workshops, we began crafting wireframes informed by our findings. Prioritizing a mobile-first approach, we iterated designs within our team, refining the layout and overall user experience for the new website.

Using Figma, we developed wireframes to establish an intuitive, user-friendly structure that effectively presents information to our audience.

Guided by our Style Guide, we designed and refined elements that seamlessly aligned with the in-game aesthetic. Our goal was to make the website feel like a natural extension of the world of Elderym, ensuring a smooth and familiar transition between the game and its online presence.

The Guardian library was added with all information you need to be able to build your team of Guardians, including stats, role type, affiliation and skills.

Conclusion

We ran into issues while building the website as the artwork and imagery were all old and new designs/screens were not avaiable yet, to prepare for this, we initially built the site knowing that all the artwork would be replaced. Using wireframes and and first pass sketches of the artwork, we created the site designed around these and their eventual full resolutions to easily be changed at a later date.

As the character portraits were also still in the process of getting made, we used the same plans on using placeholder but keeping the pages drafted until they were eventually available. We launched with the old approved artwork to start driving pre-registration which we achieved with great results and set up a blog template so marketing could begin creating content for the site. We also set up the store on the website so that users were able to purchase items in game, this included setting up modals that would pop-up and let you know of upcoming/current and special players only events, this is used daily and sellout with almost always with limited quantities being available for events.

The game now currently has 1+ million downloads and over 143,000 monthly users while new characters and content are being added often with much of the content for the events etc also being used in game. Although there were initial struggles in the beginning of development due to lack of resources, we ended up turning the process around due to future proofing and planning accordingly.
