GU Mana Wheels

Project Details

I was the Sole designer on creating 6 different Mana Wheel’s for the Battle Pass, one for each Domain. I used a combination of Illustration and photobashing previous artwork to create these wheels. The 6 Themes were Magic, War, Nature, Death, Deception and Light. I incorporated lore pieces of each God into their respective skins to give players a need to want to represent their favourite deck using their new skin.

Challenges

  • Source artwork and textures to possibly use to photobash and illustrate over.
  • Keep designs on brand and to fit each domain and god related to them.
  • Receive feedback internally from Art Director and other designers/developers.
  • Make designs in time to release with the Battle Pass deadline.

Objectives

  • Create initial sketches and first drafts.
  • Cut up artwork and alter assets to fit in the Nonagon Mana wheel.
  • Using Photoshop, illustrate and paint over the initial textures and sketches.
  • Test Designs with Unity Developer to make sure the Mana wheels fit correct without any issues.

Solution

  • Had Artwork approved by the Art Director.
  • Made sure all the illustrations fit correctly, including removing items from the wheel.
  • Plan for future designs to fit in theme with upcoming expansions.
  • Upload Mana wheels in several formats to be used by developers and marketing.

Conclusion

The Mana wheels were very well received by the community and are used very often by players in game, before leaving there were plans to also make special animated editions but unfortunately never got to complete any of these. As these were a big driving force in the sales of the Battle Pass and were loved by the community, I am very happy with the end results.
